(1905-1982) Смит, Уолтер Уэлсли ("Ред")
Старейшина американской спортивной журналистики. Окончив университет Нотр-Дам [Notre Dame, University of] (1927), работал в газетах "Сент-Луис стар" [St. Louis Star] (1928-36), "Филадельфия рекорд" [Philadelphia Record] (1936-45), "Нью-Йорк геральд трибюн" [New York Herald Tribune] (1945-66), "Нью-Йорк уорлд джорнэл трибюн" [New York World Journal Tribune] (1966-67) и "Нью-Йорк таймс" [New York Times] (1971-82). В основном его материалы были посвящены бейсболу [baseball], американскому футболу [football], боксу и скачкам. Лауреат Пулитцеровской премии [Pulitzer Prize] по разделу спортивной журналистики (1976)
